Our current Chairman, Geoff Killer, used the evening to showcase one of the sub-groups, The LAF Group, with Graham Hutton giving an informative talk on gaining Distinctions. Graham showed his successful RPS and PAGB panels and discussed how the final images were chosen, presented and scored. With two very different methods of presenting a panel, Graham encouraged members to consider working towards the CPAGB which he found easier to gather images for. The LAF (Distinctions) Group will be meeting again in the coming weeks and months, so anyone interested should let Rachel know and you will be added to the list.
For the second part of the evening Colin Cross spoke about his recent trip to China. After being strictly told it was not a photographic trip but a family holiday, Colin still managed to smuggle the perfect lens and camera choices into his suitcase and his resulting images showed the contrast between the colour and vibrancy of the night, to the more subtle landscapes and historical artefacts, then the modern innovation such as the bullet train, and the traditional characters and costumes of the locals. Although the weather appeared comparable to the UK (lots of rain) it is seemingly a fascinating country to visit.
