Chris Button – Landscape and Close Up Images

Chris Button visited the club from Southampton, and gave an intensive and full presentation about all things landscape. As we hear time and again from our guests, light and composition are so important and this was demonstrated throughout the evening in Chris’s work showing such things as lead in lines, side-lighting and atmosphere.

Chris particularly likes using a wide-angle lens, but in some situations such as in woodland he will choose a zoom lens. By understanding perspective and using filters and picking the time of day to get the best of the light we were shown image after image of locations, many of which were familiar and local to us, captured in his style.

During the second half of the evening, Chris went on to show us his macro work, still out in the landscape, this time capturing the little details, whether it be butterflies, dragonflies or orchids.

Another excellent speaker, generous with his knowledge and giving us tips and techniques to try.

I have been a club member for several years now and find I learn something whichever club event I attend. I enjoy the Studio Group evenings, but equally am happy photographing whatever the surroundings provide at home and out and about.
