The Wessex Cup – Judge : Brian Tarling

Due to a delay in arrival of our ‘official’ judge, an emergency stand in Judge (Norman Carey), started off proceedings. Brian Tarling, arrived and was given the task of the majority of the judging of the annual Ladies vs Men competition, The Wessex Cup.

Both of the team picking panels (men and women) had endeavoured to find a good mix of subjects and, as we have come to expect, a good standard of work was presented for judging.

The scores were looking favourable to the men after the print judging, but a strong digital section gave the ladies a little hope and the final scores were particularly close, 205 to 207.

There were 8 images from each team in each of the three sections, Monochrome print, Colour print and Projected images, with the men being awarded three top scores of 10 in the prints and the ladies only one. In the projected images the ladies scored two 10’s and the men only 1.

Final Scores:
Men Colour 74.5
Men Mono 65
Men PDI 67.5

Ladies Colour 69
Ladies Mono 64
Ladies PDI 72

Winners Men 207
Ladies 205

I have been a club member for several years now and find I learn something whichever club event I attend. I enjoy the Studio Group evenings, but equally am happy photographing whatever the surroundings provide at home and out and about.
