Tuesday last, saw the first of the points cup competition being judged in 2018. A new judge to us, Amanda Miller, had 25 prints and 19 projected images to judge and gave a thorough and helpful critique of each.
After holding back 6 prints in the first section the final top scorers were :
10 marks : On the Buffers – Graham Hutton, At Porlock Weir – Malcolm Bowditch, Goldfinch Feeding – David Chaloner, Meleagris – Rachel Cooper and Splash and Carry – Colin Cross, with 3 natural history shots, a landscape image and a night shot, amongst those, the 9.5 scores consisted of another landscape, Lighting the Lighthouse – Graham Hutton, a still life, Past their Best – Stephanie Selwyn and a French street scene, Sans Anglais – Rachel Cooper.
The projected images were judged after the break, another 6 held back with four achieving 10 marks, Red Squirrel – Colin Cross, Bearded Tit – Pat Catley, Nude Study – Glynis Larter-Whitcher and Norfolk Windmill – Glynis Larter-Whitcher and closely followed with 9.5 marks Red Sky Panorama – Howard Westlake and Cloud Inversion – Marilyn Peddle.
The vast range of subject matter that our members photograph was interesting as usual, and the editing and presentation was also commented on by Amanda, and she mentioned with some the titles gave context, humour and an insight into what the photographer was trying to achieve, however she wasn’t sure all the titles worked so well.
