‘Some delights of Rome’
Jun 4th, 2009 by Malcolm Bowditch
On Tuesday 2nd June we had our immediate past Chairman, Colin Sansom, to entertain us on this last club night of our conventional winter season. The programme described the evening as promising to show ‘Unseen Delights of Rome’ and for me at least, who has never been there, this was true of many of Colin’s images. Even familiar sights and landmarks were presented in an interesting and often different way, reflecting Colin’s photographic interest and background.
Colin had compiled a number of AV, digitally produced and projected, travel presentations from images obtained on various holidays. Before the break we viewed three clips from a recent city break holiday in Rome – ‘The City of Rome’, ‘Ancient Rome and Coliseum’ and ‘The Vatican City’. These carefully crafted presentations were provided with background music of an appropriately high standard (Jussi Bjoerling et al). After the break we were able to view two similar quality presentations based on a holiday taken by Colin and Beverley in New Zealand - one on the south island and one on the north. For these much of the background music was provided by Michael Oldfield and involved a lot of percussion.
The evening provided a fitting end to the current year’s winter programme and was much enjoyed by a goodly crowd in a rather hot clubhouse.
