On Tuesday 7th October the club welcomed Mike Furness from Kinson CC as our judge for the first prints Points Cup competition of the year. With fifty-seven prints to judge, the total was rather lower than usual though the standard was well up to scratch. The judging challenge was therefore considerable. On a number of occasions, Mike sought the opinion of club members on his proposals for cropping, and freely admitted to problems in awarding marks to quite a few of the prints before him. He congratulated workers on their well-saturated and sharp images. Working methodically through the prints, he ultimately awarded three tens; two to Ken Stevens for a fine, sharp monochrome picture of a steam locomotive and for another colourful picture of a vintage van. Jacky Stevens was also awarded a ten (it was all in the family that evening!) for a great picture of a kestrel. In addition, eight entries received 9½, equally divided between monochrome and colour workers.
Notable on this occasion was the work by Katherine Ablett, daughter of veteran member Chris. At only eleven years of age, she entered the senior competition for the first time and achieved the very commendable scores of 7½ for each of her two submissions. Congratulations Katherine! We hope to see a lot more work from you.
