Points Cups No.8 & presentation of trophies
May 7th, 2008 by Malcolm Bowditch
The eighth and final Points Cup competitions of the year were held at the club on Tuesday 6th May and these were followed by the presentation of trophies by our judge for the evening, Terrick Meakin. Terrick was entertaining, as always, as he gave his expert views on our entries. Very few would quarrel with the top marks that he gave to three outstanding pictures, including one for a colour print to Colin Cross and two to Diàne Horsfall – one for a colour print and the second for a monochrome picture. As one who, a mere couple of years ago, was quite new to photography and didn’t know her apertures from her elbow (so to speak) it is quite remarkable that she is now creating pictures of such astonishing quality.
In detail the results were as follows. The small print competition was won by Pam Woodhouse (54½ points), with Pat Catley second (51½ points) and Luise Cornes third (50½ points). The Colour Print competition finished with Colin Cross in first place with 59 points, Diàne Horsfall second (58 points) and Jean Bartlett third with 57 points. The Monochrome Print trophy was won by Diàne Horsfall (58 points) with Malcolm Bowditch in second position (55 points) and Colin Sansom third with 52½ points. New chairman Graham Poynter secured the trophy for the Slide competition with 59 points with Julian Forder (56½ points) and David Cornes (55½ points) second and third respectively.
This event marked the end of the competitive season for the club and, with the annual exhibition as the big finale at the end of the month, just about the end of another very successful and enjoyable winter season.
