Points Cups No. 7
Apr 14th, 2010 by Keith Chaloner
On Tuesday 13th April we held the seventh in our series of eight Points Cups competitions and we welcomed Martin Edge as our judge for the evening. Martin’s last visit was in December of 2008 when he judged one of our earliest DPI Points Cup competitions. His practical photographic expertise may be in underwater photography but he is certainly not wet behind the ears when it comes to judging.
The slide entries were the first to receive his attention and of the fourteen entered, a snowy scene by David Cornes received the higher score of nine. He also received an 8½ for a second entry as did Eric Langley for two of his slides.
The prints were then judged and he awarded tens to four of them from a good quality entry. Mike Ballard and Peter Gafney each received the maximum mark for colour prints and Peter Gafney and Brian Winkle also scored tens with monochrome entries. Peter is really on roll this season!
The final – and largest - group of images to be considered were the DPI’s and here Martin gave top marks to five pictures including one each from Jean Bartlett, Pat Catley, Rachel Cooper, John Burt and Malcolm Bowditch. I hope it won’t prove to be invidious to mention especially Jean’s entry – a wonderful wild-life study of a fox – it was superb and Martin acknowledged this.
