Macro photoraphy
Oct 1st, 2008 by Malcolm Bowditch
On Tuesday 30th September we welcomed Michael Brooke from Broadstone to the club where he gave an illustrated talk on macro photography with a large variety of mineral crystals forming the bulk of the illustrative subject matter. Michael, who uses a hand-held, compact digital camera and equally basic lighting equipment, showed the wonderful range of shapes and colours to be found in the relatively arcane world of mineralogy and, in so doing, he also illustrated clearly the problems to be encountered, including shallow depth of field and camera shake. Well, the latter illustration was less clear, obviously.
Also on view at this meeting was an example of a chair which it is hoped will be purchased one day in quantity to replace the existing rather elderly and uncomfortable ones we currently have and which make sleep impossible. Not, of course, that the temptation to sleep is ever completely overpowering on club nights - - -.
