Getting your images into the new Gallery
Sep 9th, 2008 by Keith Chaloner
For those of you that need a little help preparing your images for the Gallery, the guidance below may be helpful.
Images need to be sized, and about 150 to 250 Kbytes so they are small enough to e-mail easily and to load quickly in the Gallery.
HOW?
Create a New folder on the Desktop (right click, >New, >Folder) and label it “Website Images Ready” (or simply save them on the desktop individually).
Open Photoshop – any version, even Elements.
Open an image,
Go to Image> Image Size . In Dialogue box, go to bottom left & check that Scale Styles, Constrain Proportions and Resample Image are all ticked.
Go to (middle section) Document Size – Resolution . Set it at 72 pixels/INCH (not pixels/cm).
Go to (top section) Pixel Dimensions. If your image is wider than high (Landscape) change Width to 1000 pixels – height will change automatically in proportion.
If your image is higher than it is wide (Portrait) change Height to 900 pixels – width will change automatically in proportion.
Go to *File> Save As. Navigate to your folder “Website Images Ready”. Double click to open.
Adjust the file name of your image to the title you wish used with that image, and set the Format as JPEG> Save.
IMPORTANT:If JPEG is not available in the Format choices
go to Image> Mode and check 8bit. Then repeat File>Save As. (as *above)
In JPEG Options, and Image Options section, set Quality to Maximum and adjust the slider (large file –small file) so that the file size (just under Preview) is less than 300 K (in the range about 150 to 250 K .
Open another of your original images and repeat- until you have all the images you want displayed stored as JPG images in the “READY” folder.
Open your Email application and send a new message to Keith or Marilyn (call if you don’t know our email addresses) and make sure you attach the “READY” folder, or individual files.
Please advise any corrections necessary for the above so that it can be updated.
