As is traditional, the first club evening of the new season is the Chairman’s evening and on this occasion, Graham Poynter and his wife Jacquie gave a slide presentation ‘In search of wild orchids’. This fascinating talk gave details and pictures of over forty of the existing fifty native orchid flora. The relevant habitats, from across Britain, included woods, grassland, moors and dunes. A most enjoyable evening. More recently, the President’s Cup and Trophy were competed for on Tuesday last when some of the best prints and slides from the past season were submitted for judging by Peter Wright of Kinson. Unfortunately our President, Fred Denham, was unable to judge this year but he was there to present the trophies to the winners. The winning print was a fine shot of an eagle in flight by Colin Cross. There were four entries which were commended, another by Colin Cross, one by Norman Carey and a couple by Malcolm Bowditch. The slide competition was won by Bernard Smith with David Cornes and Julian Forder being commended for their work.
