‘A Coastal Camera’
Jul 2nd, 2008 by Malcolm Bowditch
Our exhibition at the Lifeboat College has now run its three-month course and Keith and I dismounted it on Monday. Most of you will know that we exhibited over fifty images from ten contributing members, all with a maritime flavour, in the superb modern and well-lit surroundings that the venue offers.
Our arrangement with the College was that prints should be offered for sale and that 20% of takings would be retained as a contribution to RNLI funds. In the end it emerged that we sold some twenty-four pictures in all, including some re-prints.
In thanking the club, the College principal, Sue Hennesy, has emailed us to say that the ‘excellent exhibition truly generated much interest from students, colleagues and guests throughout’. She was also very pleased with the financial outcome which raised a worthwhile sum for the organisation.
Very many people, not just from the locality but from all over the country, were able to view the exhibition and the profile of the club has been raised as a consequence. Keith and I would like to thank all who contributed and we know, too, that many other club members were able to visit and enjoy the experience of the College and to view the exhibition.
An approach is to be made by Eric to enquire into the possibility of a guided tour of the College at sometime in the summer of next year, and if the application is successful (there are two to three times more applications than can be accommodated) a further opportunity will be available for us to visit - but this time toting cameras!
