New Term – The Chairman’s Evening

After the summer break, the weekly Tuesday evening club nights have resumed.

As is tradition the first one being The Chairman’s Evening, our current Chairman, Chris Ablett, who stepped into the role at short notice, wanted the membership to be aware of what an active club we have, and he freely admitted that he had not been aware of some of the things that make up our regular programme. With that in mind the first part of the evening was taken up by the relevant members explaining their role in making ours such a busy club, from the committee members to the specialist groups we now have no excuse for not progressing in whatever photography direction we choose, whether that be competition, learning about Studio work, aiming for Distinctions, coming in for our ‘troubleshooting’ sessions or even just coming to see the varied guest speakers throughout the season.

After the break we had a photographic themed quiz, there was much concentration and whispering as the groups worked through the questions, but long before the answers were read out it became apparent that no one was going to score a full-house. Chris even had to extend the time allowed to finish the questions, after much heckling, laughter and even disputes with the quiz-master(s) over some of the answers, the winning team were Pat Catley, Mick Catley and Christine Downes, and each were presented with a box of chocolates.

I have been a club member for several years now and find I learn something whatever club event I attend. I enjoy the Studio Group evenings, and at home will photograph in the garden or when out and about with my woofers.
