My African Adventure (continued) Ian Francis DPAGB ARPS

We welcomed Ian Francis back with a new talk, but an extension of the last one he presented at the club.

Visiting Madagascar, Zambia and Kenya, from Elephants, Big Cats and Giraffes through the bird life and right down to the small and not so small lizards and Geko’s, it was a colourful evening of stripes, feathers and green landscapes and barren ones, big skies and sunsets.

You can tell by his enthusiastic, educational and anecdotal talk how much he enjoys the culture, landscape and photography opportunities in these diverse regions. We had an update on the conservation projects that he has a particular interest in and took delight at seeing the fun the rescued baby elephants were having in their safe haven, but we were saddened to hear that the poaching continues.

With the presentation interspersed with video clips, regional music and bird song alongside Ian’s story telling it was an evening of sunshine and warmth, inside the club house at least.

I have been a club member for several years now and find I learn something whichever club event I attend. I enjoy the Studio Group evenings, but equally am happy photographing whatever the surroundings provide at home and out and about.
