Jon Coombes – Following the Stour

Jon joined us again, to give us a full presentation of images, video and sound focusing on the river Stour. A lecturer for 31 years he managed to escape early in his 50’s which enabled him to become a wildlife photographer. He enjoys the advances in technology using various kit and gave us some insight into how it has changed his photography and now videography.

We followed the path of the Stour from Hengistbury Head, and along the way we saw a myriad of the creatures that inhabit the areas surrounding the river, we experienced how the seasons change the landscape, and with video and sound equipment Jon had captured the river sounds, bird song and insect behaviour.

It was surprising how close to the busy roads and urban areas the wildlife was and you realise how adaptable they have to be to survive.

I have been a club member for several years now and find I learn something whichever club event I attend. I enjoy the Studio Group evenings, but equally am happy photographing whatever the surroundings provide at home and out and about.
