SAPA Competition – Blandford CC v Fordingbridge CC

The home round of the Blandford vs Fordingbridge leg of the SAPA competition saw, Malcolm MacNaughton, a judge new to us, stepping in at short notice when our booked judge had to withdraw. Malcolm is a member of Dorchester Camera Club and also of the Dorset Independent Photographers, a small group that get together to critique each others work. Malcolm is one of the few photographers we meet that is still serving his time using large format film. Having said that he commented that he loves all forms of photography.

As a judge, Malcolm commented, he likes the image to mean something to him, he feels photography is a conversation between the photographer and the viewer, and he looks for the ‘wow’ factor when judging. As the evening progressed it was apparent that Malcolm enjoyed layers and therefore depth through an image, and backgrounds that were neutral or out of focus that made the subject stand out, again giving depth.

In the print section 8 images were held back for further scrutiny and in the pdi’s 9.

Final scores :
Print’s – Blandford 85 Fordingbridge 80.5
Dpi’s – Blandford 87 Fordingbridge 80.5
